Companies around the world can’t fill open jobs even as consumer demand surges, CNN reported. Some trained workers are stuck in the wrong places, other have retired early, some are having difficulty finding childcare and other have health concerns about going back to work. CNN also noted the overall economy itself looks different than prior to Covid-19. “This is a time of flux,” Erica Groshen, who served as commissioner of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics from 2013 to 2017, told CNN. “[It’s] not so much that it’s an overall labor shortage, as a time of structural changes [for the economy].”
