More than one third of Gen Zers and millennials are seeking new jobs, according to a survey by Paychex Inc.
It found that 44% of members of Gen Z are actively seeking new jobs and 35% of millennials are doing the same. In comparison, 27% of Gen X members are actively seeking new roles and only 11% of baby boomers are doing the same.
“The Covid-19 pandemic gave many workers the opportunity to reflect on what is most important to them in a job and an employer and assess their priorities for future roles,” said Alison Stevens, director of HR services, Paychex. “For many, the Covid-19 pandemic revealed that their current position or company was not serving them.”
Paychex’s survey also asked employees what they are looking for in order to remain loyal to their current companies. Responses from all generations include:
- Increase in pay, 61%
- A stay bonus, 39%
- More paid time off, 39%
- Flexible working hours 35%
In terms of salary increase, 42% of those surveyed indicated that an increase of 10% to 15% would encourage them to remain in their current role. However, a salary increase of 3% to 10% would be unlikely to make an impact.
The online survey included 630 full-time employees at small to midsize companies in the US. It took place from June 30 through July 10.
