Among all US metropolitan areas with populations of more than one million, Minneapolis had the lowest jobless rate in October at 1.7%, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
Las Vegas, on the other hand, had the highest rate at 5.6%.
Mankato-North Mankato, Minnesota, posted the lowest unemployment rate among metropolitan areas of all sizes at 1.3% in October. Fargo, North Dakota, and Rochester, Minnesota, had the next-lowest rates at 1.4% each.
Yuma, Arizona, had the highest jobless rate among metropolitan areas of all sizes at 17.9%.
Unemployment rates were lower in October than a year earlier in 264 of the 389 metropolitan areas, higher in 94 areas and unchanged in 31 areas. A total of 135 areas had jobless rates of less than 3.0%, and two areas had rates of at least 10.0%.
The BLS noted that 11 of the most populous metropolitan areas are made up of 38 metropolitan divisions, which are essentially separately identifiable employment centers. In October, Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall, Florida, had the lowest division unemployment rate at 1.7%.
Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale, California, had the highest rate among the divisions at 4.5%
