National Staffing Employee Week is this week. It celebrates the contributions of the millions of temporary and contract employees hired by US staffing firms.
There were 14,440 temporary help services firms in the US, according to 2017 data released by the US Census Bureau in honor of the week this year.
“From entry-level roles to the C-suite, temporary and contract employees are making a difference in our society and our economy,” said Richard Wahlquist, president and CEO of the American Staffing Association.
The ASA named Miechia Esco, MD, as 2023 National Staffing Employee of the year. Esco, a vascular surgeon, works through LocumTenens.com.
In addition, the ASA honored other temporary workers as all-stars:
- Jeremy Denton, engineering, IT and scientific sector all-star. Denton works through Airswift at renewable energy firms.
- Lisa Goodrich, industrial sector all-star. Goodrich works through Working Fields and ultimately worked her way to a full-time position at the manufacturing company where she worked.
- Noel Samuels, office clerical and administrative sector all-star. Samuels works through Integrity Staffing Solutions. Samuels was placed in a position with the city of Wilmington, California.
- LaKeatia Daniels-Owens, professional-managerial sector all-star. Daniels-Owens works through AtWork Personnel in human resources. Daniel-Owens survived a car crash that killed her husband and used a staffing firm to find a new role after recovering from the incident.
“This year’s National Staffing Employee of the Year’s and All-Stars’ stories exemplify the ways staffing agencies help people of all ages and at all stages of their careers gain access to new and meaningful employment opportunities,” Wahlquist said.
