Nearly all workers, 98%, believe employers should disclose salary ranges in their job postings, according to a Monster survey of 6,666 workers on Oct. 17. The poll comes as several jurisdictions begin to require salary disclosures in job ads.

Monster’s poll also found that 53% claimed they would refuse to apply for a job if a posting doesn’t disclose the salary range.

When it comes to fairness, 53% as well believe placing salary ranges will lead to salary equity and reduce or eliminate pay gaps. In addition, the poll found 43% believe transparency will lead to higher wages for all workers, and 42% are hopeful it will bring higher worker productivity and satisfaction.

On the other hand, pay transparency has some workers worried. Monster’s survey found 22% worry that salary disclosure laws will lead to tension between colleagues because of unequal pay. In addition, 18% believe it will bring more pay discrimination lawsuits against employers.

Also, 40% of workers who see a job posting with higher pay for their role, or a similar role from their employer, would use that as leverage to get a pay increase at their current job; however, only 3% would quit.
