A quarter of workers still plan to look for a new job once the pandemic is over, according to a poll of 2,000 full-time US workers released by Prudential. Of those planning to leave, half say they are seeking better compensation and benefits and they would prefer a job that allows for professional growth.

“The road ahead will see the market for talent heat up, and it will become increasingly competitive for employers to attract and retain top talent,” Prudential Vice Chair Rob Falzon said. “Employers looking to be a magnet for top talent in the post-pandemic economy must understand workers’ expectations of work and what they need from their jobs.”

Another finding: Half of workers say the pandemic has made them reevaluate their career goals and given them more control in deciding the direction of their career.

What workers value most in a career is job stability, according to 68% of respondents, followed by work/life balance at 62% and salary/pay at 58%.

The poll also found that 46% of workers say they will have to learn new skills within the next year to do their current job and 43% expect their financial security to be in jeopardy if they do not retrain or reskill.
