US nonfarm private employment rose by 807,000 jobs in December, according to the ADP National Employment Report released today. The leisure and hospitality sector posted the strongest showing in December, adding 246,000 jobs.

“December’s job market strengthened as the fallout from the Delta variant faded and Omicron’s impact had yet to be seen,” said Nela Richardson, chief economist at ADP. “Job gains were broad-based, as goods producers added the strongest reading of the year, while service providers dominated growth.”

However, private-sector payrolls are still nearly 4 million jobs below pre-Covid levels, Richardson added.

Here are the jobs added in December by sector:

  • Goods-producing, up 138,000
